Every since I was very young I have dreamed about being an artist. That's all I've ever really wanted to be when I grew up. As you can see from this awesome drawing I did when I was in first grade. (I can't believe I still have this...)
I took drawing and art lessons throughout school and then I decided to go to college for art as well. I moved up here, spent my first year in the art program, and absolutely loved it. My one biggest regret is that I decided to switch to a different major. I think I was too worried about being able to get a job and also that I wasn't good enough to be an "artist". So I eventually graduated with a criminal justice degree.
At the time I was planning on becoming a cop and all that fun stuff. I even joined the military and became a military police officer. After all that, I decided that it wasn't for me; this wasn't something I really wanted to do for the rest of my life. Of course, right now I don't have a career, I get to stay at home with my boys, which is great! I still dream about eventually doing something with my art, and yes, I do consider myself to be an artist!
So the point of this whole story is to say, we are given dreams for a reason. If there is something you have spent your whole life looking forward to, don't give up on it! Also, if you spent your whole life working towards a certain dream, but now you decide that you have a new dream you would like to pursue, you should go for it! We are never too old to dream a new dream!

Wonderful post. I love that you have saved the writing and drawing, and that you aren't giving up on your dreams!
ReplyDeletemmm! you should read Staci Eldridge's new book called become myself! It talks about how we need to keep dreaming and pursuing those dreams because the Lord has placed them in our hearts for a reason and they are part of His plan! I love this :)
ReplyDeleteThat does sound like a great book to read :) I will have to add it to my list!
