Free Father's Day Printable!

I started writing this post last night but then realized I couldn't because my husband was sitting right next to me and he would see what I'm giving him for Father's Day. So I saved it for this morning, but then woke up to the internet being down! How depressing! I don't even know how I survived before I had internet and social media. It has kind of taken over my life, which probably isn't a good thing.

I realized that everything was online, the recipe I was making for dinner tonight, the recipe for the fondant I need to make today for little man's birthday cake, the directions for my various sewing projects...This made me decide that I should probably print off some of these things so that I can have access to them when the internet is being wonky, which thankfully is pretty rare.

This printable is half of the gift that little man and I are giving Daddy for Father's Day. I still need to get it printed and framed, hopefully I can do that soon.

This is my first time using Google Docs to share a file, so please let me know if it isn't working! The printable is 8x10 inches so it will fit nicely in a standard frame.

{Wordless Wednesday} Little Helpers

My cute little helpers when I'm trying to work on projects:

Little man was sound asleep when we had to go to the doctor's yesterday. I hated waking him up!

Today is the only day we don't have to do anything, yay for a lazy Wednesday! Maybe I can get some projects done...

Quick & Easy Chicken Parmesan

Quick & Easy Chicken Parmesan

My goal this year has been to try cooking one new meal or dessert each week. I might have to take a short break when the babies are born, but I'm hoping to continue after that. So this week's new recipe was inspired by Holly at Spend with Pennies. She made a Quick Chicken Parmesan Casserole that looked yummy. I decided to try it out.

Normally I am not a huge fan of red pasta sauce, but this dish was quite tasty and my husband loved it. I think next time I make it I will try putting the croutons and half the cheese over the chicken and the pasta sauce on top of everything. If you are looking for an easy and quick dish to make for dinner that everyone will love, you should check this delicious recipe out!

Quick & Easy Chicken Parmesan

1 Tablespoon Vegetable Oil
1/2 Tablespoon Minced Garlic
2 teaspoons Italian Seasoning
3 boneless, skinless Chicken Breasts - cut into small pieces
2 cups Mozzarella Cheese, grated
1 cup Parmesan Cheese, grated
2 cups Pasta Sauce (from a jar or make your own)
5 ounce bag Garlic Croutons

1. In a pan, heat vegetable oil, chicken, minced garlic and Italian seasoning until chicken is cooked trough.
2. Place chicken in the bottom of a greased 8x8 pan.
3. Pour pasta sauce on top of the chicken.
4. Sprinkle 1 cup of Mozzarella cheese and 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese over the top.
5. Spread the croutons over the top of the cheese.
6. Add the remaining cheeses. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.

I hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend! Now it's back to normal life! I can't believe the week is almost half over already. Today is my doctor appointment and a growth ultrasound, I'm hoping everything is still going good with the babies and I can't wait to see them again! I will update on Sunday as usual. If you missed this last week's update, you can find it here.

Finger Paint Fun!

Finger Paint Fun! A Recipe for Homemade Finger Paint

One of the things on my list of activities to do with a one-year old is finger paint! Since I know little man will be taste testing everything, I wanted to make my own. I found this great recipe for homemade finger paint at Easie Peasie and decided to try it out.

After making the paint and letting it cool off, little man woke up from his nap and was ready to try something new! I took off his clothes and had him wear a painting shirt for this messy activity. He had a piece of paper taped to his tray so that he didn't rip it up. Ripping paper is one of his favorite activities right now.

Finger Paint Fun!

At first he didn't know what to think. He did eventually warm up to the idea and painted his first lovely picture for mama. What a cutie! I don't think he really liked having messy hands, he kept wanting to wipe his hands off on mine. Eventually he finished up and now his picture is drying, that part could take awhile!

Finger Paint Fun!

Finger Paint Fun!

Here is the recipe for the finger paint that we used: (Source: Easie Peasie)

3 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup corn starch
2 cups water

Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan and heat until the mixture thickens. Let it cool before separating into small containers. Add food coloring to make some lovely bright colors. Have fun painting!

32 Weeks Pregnant with Twins {An Update}

32 Weeks Pregnant with Twins {An Update}
Another week has gone by! I feel like the boys had a growth spurt this last week, my stomach feels twice as big now! I haven't had a growth ultrasound since a month ago, so I don't know how they are doing yet. I will have one this Tuesday though, and then I will be going once a week from now on, which is really only 4 more times. How is time going so fast?! 31 more days left on the countdown.

I am so uncomfortable lately that I wonder how I can last 4 more weeks. With little man's first birthday party next weekend and getting ready for that, at least this week should go fast. Actually it's not really that terrible yet, maybe it will get worse still. I think I have it pretty good compared to some mamas. I'm just really excited to see them and be able to breathe again!

Still no swelling, which is awesome. The sad thing is even if I go into the surgery with no swelling, afterwards I will have plenty for a week or two. I think last time it took about 3 weeks for it to all go down finally.

Little man has learned how to clap this week. It's so adorable! He has a huge smile on his face every time he does it. He also thinks its hilarious to pull my shirt up and look at my stomach. I've tried to put shorts on him instead of pants but he hates crawling on the hard wood floors with them on. So I guess he will be wearing pants until he learns how to walk. He got his 8th tooth in this week as well.

Everything is pretty much ready for the babies to get here. All their clothes are washed and put away. Almost everything is set up, we just have to put the double stroller together.  I even got my bag for the hospital all packed up and ready. Even as uncomfortable as I am and ready for them to get here, I really hope they stay put until the scheduled day. They are already very small for their age and 36 weeks will be soon enough for them to come out.

I hope you all have a great holiday weekend! Have lots of fun and please take time to remember those who served our country and sacrificed their lives so that we could enjoy ours!

What I Wish I Knew Before My C-Section

What I Wish I Knew Before My C-Section
When I had my son I never expected to end up with a c-section. I also never expected to have complications afterwards that had me in the hospital for nine days, but that's a different story for another day. Don't let that scare you about your c-section though! What happened to me was rare and will probably not happen to you.

With that being said, I'm scheduled to have my second c-section at the end of June and I am scared. I'm worried that the same thing will happen again or worse. I'm sure everything will go fine, but it's hard not to think about it. I know more about what to expect this time and can be better prepared. So to remind myself of all the things I learned last time, I made this list. Maybe it will be helpful for someone else who is facing a c-section as well.

The surgery itself was fine. I didn't feel any pain, just a lot of tugging and pulling on my insides.

You will have an IV in your arm, a catheter and I had oxygen, I'm not sure if everyone does or not.

The epidural caused me to have uncontrollable shaking, which was the worst part about the actual surgery. My muscles in my shoulders hurt so bad, I thought they would be sore for days, but they weren't.

Your arms will most likely be strapped down. I actually don't even remember that part and had to ask my husband if mine were or not.

C-section recovery is going to be much harder and longer than for a vaginal birth. Remember, a c-section is major abdominal surgery. Your intestines were pulled out and after everything is put back inside and you are stitched up, your insides will be full of gas. Getting rid of that gas can be painful.

Get up and move as soon as they let you. They will probably make you get up anyways even if you don't feel like it. Moving around and walking will help get your insides back to normal.

Getting up out of bed is the hardest part. You won't be able to use your stomach muscles, just your arms and legs. It's harder than you think it will be.

Don't eat for at least 24 hours afterwards. Make sure your intestines are working again before attempting to eat real food. They will probably make you wait until you have passed gas to make sure they are working. I'm not sure if they will make you wait 24 hours at the hospital, this is just what I plan on doing this time.

Start taking stool softeners a few days before your surgery and keep taking them in the hospital and a few days afterwards. It will help. Also, take Gas X pills to help get rid of that awful gas.

If you have to cough or sneeze afterwards, hold a pillow to your stomach to help with the pain. Try not to laugh at first, it will be painful.

Make sure you use a belly binder. It helps a lot with the pain and with getting everything back into place. The hospital I was at provided one for me, if yours doesn't you probably want to bring one with you.

Bring pants or underwear that are high-waisted, you don't want it to be resting right on top of your incision. Last time I just wore hospital gowns the entire time, but this time I plan on wearing regular clothes as soon as possible.

Stay on top of your pain meds. Don't try to be a hero. It's better to keep taking them regularly than to fall behind and have to catch up while being in pain.

Even if you feel like you are back to your normal self in the first couple of weeks, don't overdo it. Your incision will hurt later on that evening.

Even now, one year after my surgery, I still have some numbness around my scar sometimes.

Delivery guilt. I know I shouldn't feel guilty, but sometimes I do. I feel like I missed out on part of having a baby. I have to remind myself that it was the best thing for my son and that all that matters is that he arrived safely with no complications.

No matter how scary it sounds, in the end it will all be worth it. That's what I will be telling myself for the next month or so!

My Favorite (Free) Summer Fonts

Ok I admit it, I'm obsessed with fonts. I could spend hours looking at them. I have done that on several occasions when working on a project. Since this weekend is Memorial Weekend, that means summer is "officially" here, right? So here is a list of my favorite fonts to use for your summer projects. They are all free, which is even better!

My Favorite (Free) Summer Fonts

If you're wondering about the lovely summer colors I used, they are from Pantone's Fashion Color Trend Report for Summer 2013. I hope these fonts and colors give you some inspiration as you think about the projects you have on your list this summer!

Here are the links to download each of the fonts:

Wordless Wednesday: This Past Year

Since little man is just about to turn one, I thought it would be a good idea to post some old pictures from when he was first born. He was so cute and tiny back then!

Here he is in the hospital with me, since I had to stay there 9 days he was over a week old already.

This is my favorite! His grumpy face is so hilarious. He was about 2 weeks old here.

Little man and I were wearing our MN Twins shirts in this picture. He was almost 2 months old.

And here he is now, almost one year old and such a handsome little boy!

Snickerdoodle Bars are the Best Dessert Bars Ever!

Snickerdoodle Bars, these are the best dessert bars ever!

It's true. These Snickerdoodle bars are now my favorite dessert ever. This is about my third time making them and they are delicious! Super easy to make and they stay soft and chewy even after a few days. You must try them out, especially if you have kids that love Snickerdoodle cookies.

Snickerdoodle Bars (recipe found at My Own Sweet Thyme)

2-2/3 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups packed brown sugar
1 cup butter, at room temperature
2 eggs, at room temperature
1 tablespoon vanilla
2 tablespoons white sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a 9x13 baking pan.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.

3. In a large bowl, beat together the butter, brown sugar, eggs and vanilla until smooth. Add the flour mixture to the egg mixture and beat until well blended.

4. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.

5. In a small bowl, combine the white sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle over the batter in the baking pan.

6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the surface springs back when gently pressed.

7. Remove from oven and let cool. Eat one or two of them before everyone else finds out they are done. Enjoy!

Activities with an (Almost) One Year Old: Playdough Fun!

Activities with a One Year Old: Playdough Fun!

I think that little man is a little young for playing with playdough, but I have been trying to find some activities to do with him to keep him busy. He gets bored easily these days and likes to be entertained, even if his attention only lasts a few minutes! So today I made some playdough for him using a recipe I found on kristanlynn.com. She says its the best playdough recipe ever and I have to agree, it turned out very nicely.

31 Weeks Pregnant with Twins

31 Weeks Pregnant with Twins
31 weeks already! I got a call from my doctor this week telling me that we could move my c-section date up a week. Since I know that research shows it is best to deliver mo/di twins at 36 weeks, I was thankful she changed her mind. So now my new date is June 26th! Only 38 more days. That sounds like it will be here way too fast! I'm getting nervous about the surgery already.

Want to know what those two little peanuts are up to this week? Check it out:
  • Weight is more than 3 pounds and Height is about 18 inches long.
  • They can track light and hear distinct sounds.
  • They can perceive signals from all five senses as well.
  • Fat continues to build under their skin and they will quickly gain weight in the next few weeks.
  • Digestive tract and lungs are almost mature and the lungs are able to inflate properly.
  • Toenails and fingernails are fully formed and they could accidentally scratch themselves already.
I've been having a lot of Braxton Hicks contractions lately, but I probably just need to drink more water. Otherwise everything is still pretty much the same as last week. I was measuring 36 weeks at my last doctor's appointment, so that's only about 6 weeks ahead which is pretty small compared to some twin mommas. I also only gained about 1 pound in two weeks so its probably just the babies growing. I'm hoping my weight gain stays about the same until the end. I didn't get an ultrasound this time, so I don't know how big the boys are measuring but next week we will find out. After that I will go every week.

In other news, little man turned 11 months old this past week! He is getting to be such a big boy already. He is getting into everything that he can and loves pulling things out of the cupboards. He loves cars and trucks, both toys and in real life and has started to say "car" when he sees one. It's so cute! His other favorite thing to do is look at books (and try to eat them). He gets so excited when we read them together.

Leibster Award Nomination

Have you ever heard of the Leibster Award? I hadn't heard of it before today when Emily over at Love, Pasta and a Tool Belt let me know that she had nominated my blog. How awesome is that? Thanks again Emily!

What is this award you ask? I was wondering the same thing. Emily kindly explained it in her blog post. This is what I learned about it:
  • The Leibster Award is not an actual award, it is kind of like a chain letter; once you are nominated for one you must pass it on to other bloggers if you accept it.
  • It is given to blogs that are up and coming with less than 200 followers.
  • "Leibster" means sweetest, kindest, lovely, dearest, beloved and endearing in German.
  • Even though the Leibster Award is not an actual award it is still an honor to be nominated. Once you are nominated you can accept it or not. If accepted, then you also pass it on.
  • This award is a great way to learn more about your fellow bloggers.

Once you decide to accept the award there are some responsibilities to follow. You must write a post about the nomination. In that post you must:
  • Answer the 11 questions that your nominator posted on her blog.
  • Give 11 facts about yourself.
  • Make up 11 more questions for the new people that you nominate.
  • Thank your nominator and link back to her blog.
You also must nominate 5-11 new bloggers who have less than 200 followers for the award. Once you publish your post, you must let them know that they have been nominated so that they can decide whether to accept it or not.

DIY Hanging Baby Mobile

DIY Hanging Baby Mobile
Since my two little peanuts are going to be sharing a room with little man for awhile, it was already decorated and everything. I wanted to make something for them though, and little man never had a mobile in there, so that would be the perfect project! I found inspiration from Gretchen @ Boxy Colonial. She used a circle cutout with hers and I honestly was going to as well, but accidentally bought the square one instead. I still think they turned out nicely with a different shape. I made two of them, one for each crib. They look great hanging above the cribs!

DIY Hanging Baby Mobile

Here is what I used to make mine:
  • embroidery hoop
  • ribbon to hang it with
  • white string
  • double sided tape
  • scissors
  • hot glue gun
  • paint for the embroidery hoop
  • paintbrush
  • square paper punch
  • 4 colors of cardstock

How I made them:

DIY Hanging Baby Mobile
1. I punched out all the squares first. I ended up punching out way too many but I wasn't sure how many I would need at first. You probably will need about 200 all together for one mobile. I had 16 strings with 6 double-sided squares on each.

2. Then I decided how many squares I wanted on each string and measured out how long the strings would need to be. You can make them as long as you want, but I made them 6 squares long. Then I cut all my strings the same length.

3. Starting at the bottom, lay out your shapes and use double sided
DIY Hanging Baby Mobile
tape to fasten them together with the string in between. I had a pattern I was following so I made 4 strings of each pattern, but you can do it randomly if desired.

DIY Hanging Baby Mobile4. Paint the embroidery hoop, you will only be using the inside hoop. Let it dry. Then tie your strings around the hoop. Once you are done tying them, use a little hot glue on the inside of the hoop to keep them in place.

5. Decide how far you want your mobile to hang down and cut two pieces of ribbon the same length. Use the hot glue gun to attach them to the hoop. Your lovely new baby mobile is now done! You could also use a different ribbon and attach it around the outside of the hoop if you wanted to hide the strings, I will probably end up doing that to mine eventually.

Wordless Wednedsay: First Time In the Grass

wordless wednesday: first time in the grass
Today was another beautiful day outside. Since the yard had finally dried up we went down to play in the grass. This was little man's first time experiencing this weird stuff and he wasn't a big fan.

He was much happier when we went back up on the deck to play instead.

10 Things That Make Me Happy

I got the idea for this post from the Blog Every Day in May challenge. While I'm not doing that, I thought it was a great idea. It sounds like an easy task, but it turned out to be harder than I was expecting. I am happy in general, but coming up with 10 specific things that make me happy was a little challenging.

So here it is, 10 random things that make me happy:

1. My family, of course. I love my little boy to pieces and he entertains me everyday. His personality is showing more and more each day and its awesome. My two little peanuts also entertain me by making my stomach look like it has aliens trying to get out of it. I can't wait to have 3 little boys getting into everything!

2. My new camera. I wrote about it yesterday, but I'm very excited to have it. I have used it tons already and I can't wait to take lots of pictures of my babies with it!

3. My blog. I've just started, its been a little over a week, but I really enjoy it. I love getting to know new people and writing about whatever I want. It gives me something to do, I was getting realllllly bored sitting around not being able to do much and waiting for July 1st to come around.

4. My kitty, Tsarmina or Mina for short. She is such a weird little kitty and gets into trouble a lot, but she is also the most loving and friendly kitty I've ever had. She's also a very pretty white cat. She loves to steal Little Man's stuffed animals and run away with them. Whenever I sit on the floor she comes running over purring, she's so sweet.

5. A clean house. I'm sure this is something that makes everyone happy and its sometimes hard to keep up with, especially right now. Its so nice to have everything cleaned up and put away at the end of the day.

6. The library. I love going to the library and just browsing random books. The one we have here is really small and I miss the nice one I had when I was living at home. I could spend hours there, but of course I don't have much extra time nowadays.

7. Pizza. I know its terrible for you, but it tastes so good! Its still my favorite food, even though I'm all grown up now.

8. My favorite TV shows. I love laying in bed in the evening after the little guy goes to bed and watching TV. It might even be my favorite time of day. Oh and my two favorite shows right now are: New Girl and The Walking Dead. Two completely different kinds of shows, but its nice to have variety. I just watched all 3 seasons of The Walking Dead at once because it wasn't a show I thought I would like at first, but now I'm hooked.

9. Finishing a project. This is something I'm terrible at. I have so many projects I have started and never completed. It's the best feeling ever to actually finish one. Right now I'm working on a crotchet baby blanket and I'm about half way done.

10. Good design. It could be anything. Interiors, graphics, websites, posters...it makes me happy when I find something that I consider to be good design. I'm very picky about what I like and what I think looks good. So its refreshing when I find something that I love.

What makes you happy?

Chicken Crescent Roll Casserole

Chicken Crescent Roll Casserole

As I was planning my menu for the week, I remembered I had some leftover chicken from when I made the Cheesy Chicken and Wild Rice Casserole. So I looked around for something with chicken in it that I haven't tried yet. I found this recipe on tastebook.com and decided to try it out today because it looked tasty.

It was very easy to make, didn't take much time at all. It also tasted delicious! Everyone loved it. I would recommend it if you're looking for a simple, quick dinner to make.

Over the weekend I ended up getting my lovely Nikon 1 camera as an extremely early birthday/Christmas gift. We wanted to have it to use this summer for little man's first birthday and for when the two peanuts get here. So I am very excited to be able to work on my photography skills and take some (hopefully) better pictures!

Now on to the recipe:

CHICKEN CRESCENT ROLL CASSEROLE

(2) 8 ounce cans refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
10 3/4 ounce can cream of chicken soup
3/4 cup grated cheddar cheese
1/2 cup whipping cream

FILLING

4 ounces cream cheese, softened
4 tablespoons butter, softened
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/3 cup onion, finely chopped
2 large cooked chicken breasts, finely chopped (about 2 cups)
3/4 cup grated cheddar cheese
salt and pepper to taste
2 tablespoons whipping cream

1-2 cups grated cheddar cheese (for topping)

1. Preheat oven to 350 and grease 9x13 pan.

2. In a saucepan, mix whipping cream, 3/4 cup cheddar cheese and undiluted chicken soup with black pepper to taste. Heat just until the cheese melts (do not boil).

3. For the filling - in a bowl, mix the soft cream cheese with the butter until smooth, then add garlic powder. Add in the chopped chicken, onion and cheddar cheese; mix well. Add in 2 tablespoons whipping cream; mix to combine. (If the mixture seems too dry, add a little more). Season with salt and pepper to taste.

4. Unroll the crescent rolls. Place 1 heaping tablespoon of chicken mixture on top of each crescent triangle, then roll up starting at the thicker end.

5. Drizzle a small amount of soup mixture on the bottom of the 9x13 pan. Place the crescent rolls seam-side down on top of the soup mixture in the pan. Drizzle the remaining sauce on top and sprinkle with 1-2 cups of grated cheddar cheese.

6. Bake for about 30 minutes.

30 Weeks Pregnant & Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all the mommas and grandmas out there! Its a beautiful day outside today! Today also marks 30 weeks in my pregnancy. I even took some pictures of my bump to show you all. This is a very rare thing for me as I feel like I'm huge and don't like to see what I look like. 30 weeks is a big milestone (only 49 more days...but who's counting) so I felt I should take some pictures to remember what it was like.

Here are some facts about my babies at 30 weeks:

  • They are about 15 to 16 inches long and weight around 3 pounds each, maybe a little more.
  • They will hopefully gain about 1/2 pound each every week from now on.
  • Their brains are growing and getting smarter by the minute.
  • The little guys can now regulate their own temperature.
  • Their skin is getting smoother.
  • Their little hands are now strong enough to grasp a finger.
  • They are practicing breathing on their own.
  • Their digestive tract is fully functional.

As for me, I have bad acid reflux off and on. My ribs are constantly hurting and it is very hard to breath sometimes. I can't eat much food at one time, so I stick with smaller meals and snacks. Basically I am very uncomfortable all of the time lately. Sounds like fun, doesn't it! One good thing though: I don't have any swelling yet. I can still wear my rings and my ankles and feet are normal. This might change when it gets hotter out, I'm hoping that drinking tons of water will help.

It might sound like its awful being pregnant with twins, and it kind of is. But in the end its all worth it and I can't wait to meet my two little boys!
