Finger Paint Fun!

Finger Paint Fun! A Recipe for Homemade Finger Paint

One of the things on my list of activities to do with a one-year old is finger paint! Since I know little man will be taste testing everything, I wanted to make my own. I found this great recipe for homemade finger paint at Easie Peasie and decided to try it out.

After making the paint and letting it cool off, little man woke up from his nap and was ready to try something new! I took off his clothes and had him wear a painting shirt for this messy activity. He had a piece of paper taped to his tray so that he didn't rip it up. Ripping paper is one of his favorite activities right now.

At first he didn't know what to think. He did eventually warm up to the idea and painted his first lovely picture for mama. What a cutie! I don't think he really liked having messy hands, he kept wanting to wipe his hands off on mine. Eventually he finished up and now his picture is drying, that part could take awhile!

Here is the recipe for the finger paint that we used: (Source: Easie Peasie)

3 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup corn starch
2 cups water

Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan and heat until the mixture thickens. Let it cool before separating into small containers. Add food coloring to make some lovely bright colors. Have fun painting!

  3. We don't do paint around here (my poor kids) but I think that I could allow this. As three-year olds, I think that mine would use it like a playdoh which might work.

    1. My little boy was a little too young for it, but your three year olds would probably love it :)
