Activities with an (Almost) One Year Old: Playdough Fun!

Activities with a One Year Old: Playdough Fun!

I think that little man is a little young for playing with playdough, but I have been trying to find some activities to do with him to keep him busy. He gets bored easily these days and likes to be entertained, even if his attention only lasts a few minutes! So today I made some playdough for him using a recipe I found on kristanlynn.com. She says its the best playdough recipe ever and I have to agree, it turned out very nicely.

 Here is what you need:
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup salt
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • food coloring
Use a saucepan and mix all ingredients together until smooth. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture clumps together. Once it is all in one clump, take it out and knead it with your hands. Its pretty simple and easy to make.

So then came the fun part: seeing how little man reacted to it. He played with it more than I expected him to, which was great. He didn't even try to eat it, except maybe once. I think he knew he wasn't supposed to. He had fun for awhile, but as everyone with kids knows, a one year old's attention span is very short. So we put it away for next time, but I think he enjoyed it. He especially liked when it was in the container and he could try to get it out.

What are some activities that you do with your one year old?
